Programme of Inquiry

Our Programme of Inquiry

Our written curriculum is organized around the six transdisciplinary themes found in each IB Primary Years Programme around the world:  Who We Are, Where We Are in Place and Time, How We Express Ourselves, How the World Works, How We Organize Ourselves, and Sharing the Planet.

Each grade level team has developed one unit of inquiry for each theme focused around the N.C. Essential Standards in Science and Social Studies and integrating all other subject areas.  Units of inquiry span 4-6 weeks in length, revolve around big ideas or key concepts, and typically end with a project-based, hands-on summative assessment or written reflection.  The inquiry cycle we use for instruction includes the steps of: tuning in, finding out, sorting out, going further, making conclusions, and taking action.
