Welcome to this week's edition of The Friday Five -- five reminders on Friday afternoon to get your upcoming week off to a great start. As a reminder, the NCHSAA high school football playoffs start tonight with J.M. Robinson hosting NE Guilford at 7 p.m. and Mt. Pleasant hosting West Lincoln at 7:30 p.m. Northwest Cabarrus travels to Ashbrook and West Cabarrus travels to Northern Guilford with both those games kicking off at 7:30 p.m.

- Today is progress report day for the second quarter.
- There will be NO SCHOOL for CCS students from Wed, Nov. 27 through Fri, Nov. 29th for the Thanksgiving holiday. All CCS facilities will be closed to the public on Thursday, Nov. 28th and Friday, Nov. 29th.
- The Winter Panorama Survey window will open on Dec. 2nd and run through Dec. 13th.

Academic Calendars for 2025-26 approved: During their October 14th business meeting, the Board of Education approved the 2025-2026 Academic Calendar and Early College calendars. The approved calendars may be viewed on our district website at the links below. #3 Program Choice applications open through Dec. 15th
|

Program Choice applications for the 2025-26 school year will be open from October 17, 2024 to Sunday, December 15, 2024. Parent notification of placement will occur in the online family dashboard the week of February 3, 2025. Parents will have until Monday, Feb 17, 2025 to make a decision and accept a seat in their online dashboard. Any seats not accepted within this window will be forfeited to waitlisted students.

#4 Juniors and Seniors: Fall Financial Aid workshop on Nov. 19th at J.M. Robinson

CCS Families of juniors and seniors:
Cabarrus County Schools will be hosting an in-person session with College Foundation of North Carolina on November 19th at 6:30 pm at Jay M Robinson High School. This event is intended for parents of juniors or seniors in high school regarding how to fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid and other important financial aid and scholarship resources. Holiday Traditions Return to Downtown Concord
|
Holiday traditions return to Downtown Concord in November! The City of Concord’s 27th Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony, presented by Eli Lilly, will take place on Friday, November 22, and the 96th Concord Christmas Parade, presented by TrueCare Pharmacy, is on Saturday, November 23.
Both events are free and filled with family-friendly fun and entertainment for all ages, plus fireworks on Friday night. Many of our CCS students will be participating in the events, so come out and support them and enjoy these time-honored traditions.
More information on the weekend’s events below:
Friday, November 22, 6-8:30 p.m. - 27th Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony, Presented by Eli Lilly
- Kids’ activities in the Winter Wonderland, sponsored by Uwharrie Bank, photos with Santa and Mrs. Claus at Santa Land, sponsored by Kinetic by Windstream, live musical performances on the main stage – including performances by Royal Oaks and the W.M. Irvin Elementary School choir – food trucks, fireworks, and more!
- The illuminated city vehicle display is returning and visitors will enjoy meeting some of their favorite holiday characters as they stroll through the festive displays on their way to meet Santa or watch the fireworks.
Saturday, November 23, 2:30 p.m. - 96th Concord Christmas Parade, presented by TrueCare Pharmacy
- Concord’s Christmas Parade is a holiday tradition you don’t want to miss! It’s is one of the oldest and continuously running Christmas parades in North Carolina.
- The parade is returning to Union Street this year! It begins at the intersection of Church Street N and Lake Concord Road, and continues over two miles along Church Street, Buffalo Avenue, and Union Street, ending at the intersection of Union Street and Corban Avenue.
- Many of our schools and bands participate and are eligible to win prizes for best-in-show!
